The play is "Hell and High Water" by Aysha Zackria, and it was directed by Sara Elizabeth Grant. Another key component of the production team was the play's composer and sound designer, Spencer Robelen. Spencer not only created the intricate sound design for "Hell and High Water," he also lent some of his original compositions to the play. On top of that: he's the mastermind behind the "dtc radio" theme you know and love. Let's learn a little more about Spencer... Spencer Robelen is a New York-based composer, violinist, and playwright. His compositions include chamber, orchestral, and choral music, as well as film scores, musical theatre works, and incidental music for plays and ballets. Whether he’s writing a bittersweet ballad or a fugue of fart sounds, Spencer covers a large spectrum of emotions with his work. Spencer holds a B.A. in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, where he studied under the tutelage of composer Dorothy Hindman and served as president of the Society of Composers, Inc. He later received his M.F.A. in Musical Theatre Writing from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he worked with numerous industry professionals, including Tony-winners William Finn and Rebecca Taichman. As a playwright, Spencer has received several honors for his short plays and audio dramas. His one-act play, "The Wheels Go Round and Round," is published by YouthPLAYS and has been performed in Canada and South Africa in addition to the U.S. Spencer is also a noted SpongeBob SquarePants scholar, but this accolade has failed to garner him any prestigious awards.
